Waterjet cuttingNew production option: water jet cutting
Waterjet cutting uses a jet of water at a pressure of 4,000 bar through a small nozzle with a diameter of approx. 0.3 mm at a very high speed of approx. 850 m/sec. The addition of an abrasive sand produces a jet with a high kinetic density that cuts the hardest materials.
Advantages of waterjet cutting
- No material deformation in the edge area
- no tools required-almost all materials can be cut
- almost all shapes are feasible
- environmentally friendly, dust-free
- no thermal stress on the material
Material thicknesses for waterjet cutting
- Stainless steel 0 – 100 mm
- Aluminum 0 – 100 mm
- Titanium 0 – 75 mm
- Glass 0 – 80 mm
- Brass, copper, bronze 0 – 80 mm
- Stone, granite, marble 0 – 120 mm
- Plastics 0 – 100 mm
- Carbon, FR4 0 – 65 mm
Cutting quality
The cutting quality of waterjet cutting depends on the cutting speed, the base material and the material thickness. The price for cutting therefore depends on the required quality.
- Parting cut Q 1 approx. RZ 80 heavy scoring
- Medium cut Q 3 approx. RZ 50 noticeable grooves
- Fine cut Q 5 approx. RZ 10 hardly noticeable scoring
